It's been a busy few weeks at University, with the main priority being the Individual Project Proposal for my dissertation. Here's a little information about my project:
I'll be designing a historical landscape using the Unreal Engine in corporation with the New Forest. Bournemouth University have worked with the New Forest Authorities for the past few years, with Games Students re-creating different area's of the New Forest from their respective historic periods. There have been various re-creations from the past few years, some can be seen on Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1iAppWHsTA). My Project will be based on one of the New Forests' most recent discoveries, the Long Barrow Burial Mounds. This is the first one that has surfaced in the New Forest area, using the latest Lidar technology they have been able to uncover the site in which it once stood. This project will be evaluating the effectiveness of using a Game Engine for visual representation of historical sites, which the New Forest Authorities questioned of my finished product and their overall opinion. I will also use this developed landscape to determine the effectiveness of using a Game Engine for educational purposes, more specifically looking at Navigation Systems, and if using a Navigation System increases the amount of information retained by the user, ensuring that they have seen all the information available in the environment.
Preparing for this Project and underlining what' specifically I will be looking at has taken a lot of time, however it's made me more excited to get started and begin developing the project in the Unreal Engine 4, but also create all the assets using Maya, zBrush and Photoshop.
Whilst working on my Project, I have put time aside to further develop my knowledge of zBrush, with this I have begun creating a Goblin Head. This has had influences from the worldwide game, World of Warcraft and various projects similar I have seen online. There are still many adjustments I would like to make to it, however here it is in it's current state.
